I fully participated in this race with some helps by officials, I took the officials' media reporting car for the photo coverage. Rico, there are a few details about Rik's performance that need to be pointed out:
(1) This result came after Rik did 350km of training in the previous 10 days in Tokunoshima, Japan.
(2) Rik was not invited to the race. He paid his own way to Taiwan and paid his entry fee as a normal, recreational runner. The invited Taiwanese runners were upset that Rik showed up and beat them.
(3) The organizers of the marathon were so assured that Wu Wen Chien, the top Taiwanese runner, would win they wrote the check out for him before the race!
