"thwart"? Who wrote this trashy headline? It's as biased as the Daily Mail.
"prevent from succeeding in or accomplishing something" it sounds ok to me, maybe "stop"? --JFM 16:31, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
Synonyms: frustrate, spoil, prevent, foil, put paid to, ruin, put a stop to, stop, impede, hinder, obstruct
- I know the headline I wrote stinks... it was the best I could do :(
- Greenpeace knew the coast guard would be called in to stop them, so it was purely a publicity stunt.
