Talk:German Wikipedia DVD sells out first 10,000-copy run

This should be put up as a full article now (<-- unsigned comment by 209.148.141.17)

Uhm, no, not yet. This is single-sourced article, and reads like a press release in its current state. I will look through the history and see if it can be alternately sourced. But thanks for bringing it to my attention. - Amgine 15:54, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
How is it possible for a company to commercialize everyone's work on Wikipedia in this manner? Can anyone resell this DVD from their own web site?
This article is nothing more than a press release that is pushing a product. If I compile a CD with Wikinews articles on it, can I put a press release up on Wikinews hawking my product as well? If not, then why is the German company Directmedia Publishing getting special treatment? They aren't yet another little-publicized venture to make money on the side run by Wales or Angela are they?
Directmedia Publishing has had a full day of free advertising by virtue of appearing under Developing stories on the front page. The distinction between whether this is a "full article" under Latest news, or a "developing article" that is not ready for prime time, is easily lost on our readers.
As a constructive suggestion, I propose that future "press release" articles not be allowed to sit on Developing stories, lest it serve as a convenient loop hole for anyone to push their products until someone gets around to rewriting it.
If another company is doing the same thing, and the two products can be compared and contrasted, then this story will be news. Or if some noteworthy commentator can be found who thinks this is a bad idea, then this story would be news. A press release isn't news. — DV 05:15, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Which is exactly why the 'INDEX' box should be considered for movement to the 'Developing stories' location. -edw 05:46, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
