Many Jewish and Islamic worshipers are also starting to ask for the re-instatement of "Christmas" in many retailers' advertisements and greetings. Some reasons are worry for themselves: several Jews belive that if the Christians are being persecuted, what will happen to the Jews? Muslims are worried about some of their own holiday demands. Also, the Muslims do follow Christian holidays, and some say they would prefer Jesus over Santa.

Do the Christian supporters really have right on their side? It depends on how you look at it. They say that it is discrimination against Christians. After all, they say, in India no one would be upset if there was a Mohammed festival. You could argue that the majority of Americans are not Christian, but according to the US Census, 77% of Americans are Christians. The deciding factor could be the sentiment of public opinion.

I see your point, but he's objecting to the switching of the phrases, so ideally it should contian both. It might suck, but we could try "Falwell called for boycott of stores saying 'Happy Holidays' in place of 'Merry Christmas'". I donno.. Nyarlathotep 04:48, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Who is Falwell? More information needs to be given in the title for a global audience.

Happy Holidays (from Google)

Considering that this year Christmas day "kicks off" the "holiday season" with the 12 days of the Greek & Cretan Christmas, the 8 days of Chanukkah, and Kwanzaa, Google's logo on Christmas day generically displayed "Happy Holidays" - usually they're more specific, changing their logo daily - but this year, after Christmas day, it's back to the generic Google logo. Anyone know the story behind that?

Personally, the vague "Happy Holidays" well-wishing doesn't bother me especally in light of the proximity of the holidays this year, but not being able to be specific (as Google has been in the past) seems to contribute to the general ignorance of the population.
