Talk:Estonia becomes European leader in Internet usage
Is being 7th out of 25 being a leader? When I saw the title, I understood Estonia was 1st or so. Which was surprising, to say the least. Submarine 01:16, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
"The country currently has one of the best economic freedom ratings in the world." The usage of best indicates that it is 'good thing', the statement is personal not factual. Indeed the idea of freedom being a capitalist economy is debatable, but I think we can ignore that here. --GregStephens 02:45, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- OK, just to clear up some things. 7th out of 25 is being a leader not the leader. Yes, I know it implies First Place, so you can go ahead and change it if you want to something else. Estonia is a forerunner, though. Now, about economic freedom. Economic freedom is a good thing, I don't know how you find that a personal statement. What would you like the statement to be? "The country currently has one of the highest economic freedom ratings in the world." I mean, it's been proven that economic freedom does lead to prosperity, foreign investment, less corruption, etc... and it's a great thing for a country like Estonia which was under Russian dictatorship and imposed rule until 1991! - Economic freedom is a good thing, I don't know how you find that a personal statement. Whether "free" economic policies are a good or a bad thing is an ongoing topic of political debates in many countries. Of course, you may consider that the point of view that "economic freedom" is bad is stupid, but this point of view is shared by very large parts of the electorate. Thus, since the policy on Wiki* is the "neutral point of view", we should not endorse the idea that being "free" in the sense defined by the Heritage Foundation is good.
