Copyvio?
editI noticed that the headline of this (synthesis) article and one of its sources are the same (Reuters source). Could anyone please clarify if this is a copyvio? Thanks, ~YTT • (talk) 08:44, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, will fix, and am really sad to see Don pop his clogs. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:52, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I've corrected Saki (talk · contribs)'s misinformation, and expanded this considerably. It should be copyvio-free now, and accurate. Please review! --Brian McNeil / talk 12:40, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I appreciate everyone's help on this - the article has turned out very nicely. When I wrote the title I was simply trying to follow what I perceived as proper here on WikiNews - Musician John Martyn dies at age 60, Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner dies aged 87 - and I certainly didn't copy any text from other sources. - I.M.S. - Easy mistake to make, but we do go to serious lengths to avoid any possible plagiarism accusation. Oh, and it's Wikinews - no camelcase. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:52, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well... it's such a simple, formulaic title that I question the eligibility of it for copyright. That, however, is getting somewhat involved. I'm not going to say it, and I'm certainly not going to spend vast amounts of time learning Florida/US federal (Wikinews host server jurisdiction) and Scottish/UK (my local jurisdiction) copyright statute and precedent to make an informed comment on that. - IIRC from discussion with Eddan Katz of the EFF, the 'hot button' is to Google for something like "Hot news appropriation", and look at the article I wrote about AP menacing bloggers. Anyway, in this case you want both names, one for the art community, one for musicians - better GNews placing. ;-) --Brian McNeil / talk 13:16, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- A bit clichéd but - it's better to be safe than sorry. ~YTT T | C 13:28, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
