"In March 2003, House Representatives Bob Ney of Ohio and Walter B. Jones of North Carolina instituted changing food references of "French" to "Freedom" as a propaganda response to the refusal of France to participate in the U.S.-initiated invasion of Iraq in 2003." This is outrageous. Propaganda is used to describe serious items, not french fries. previous unsigned comment by 75.21.185.6

It is propaganda, but not aimed at the French. It is aimed squarely at the US populace who, by and large, can be convinced that "we're right, they're stupid" and this backed up with something as childish as the renaming.

This is news, how else will people know that Americans have learned that "French fried" refers to the style of cooking, not the origin. As the correctly labelled picture states, what the English call "chips" originated in Belgium. :-) --Brian McNeil / ^talk 18:49, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
