What to do with dead links?

Surely they shouldn't just be left in if they can't be updated. That's just a bad user experience. I couldn't find any written policy. Should be added to Wikinews:Style guide#External links section. --Pmsyyz 03:33, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Almost all news sources will become dead links as they are moved to archives and removed from free public access. However, by maintaining the link address, Wikinews performs a service as an historical document record - at the time the WN article was produced there *was* a source, at the Canadian government site, which was named in just that way. That may be useful for a researcher at a later date. - Amgine 03:40, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
