OR Interview transcript edit

Here is the transcript of an interview I did with Brothers Sunshine Coast president Michael Haines at the Brothers SC AGM.

Patrick Gillett You've just been re-elected [as president of Brothers SC]. You must be happy with that one?

Michael Haines Yes. Yeah. I'm very happy.

Patrick Gillett The club has been accepted into A grade. How's has the club [members] responded to that?

Michael Haines The club has always been growing quite strongly. We're all very excited about the A grade and the reserve grade for 2023. So now I expect the club to get around it in a very strong way or stronger than they have been already.

Patrick Gillett What did you Brothers have to show to get approval for an A grade side?

Michael Haines Essentially, we just had to put together a case to demonstrate that there was a larger playing group out there that's of a higher quality player that we could essentially tap into. We've had, we put out some expressions of interest. We spoke to a large number of players out there on the Sunshine Coast and the broader community and we've actually had a great response from a large number of players who are looking to play at Brothers next year.

Patrick Gillett How many of [the players] have come through the Friday night comp?

Michael Haines Yeah. So we had a we had a really strong Friday night comp. Obviously, the Friday night Cricks, Sunshine Coast Cricks Cup that went really well for us this year. A large number of our boys will be looking to sort of advance or, or go into the reserve grade in the A grade on the back of their efforts this year.

Patrick Gillett How much help have you had from other Brothers clubs up and down Queensland?

Michael Haines Yeah. So brothers. Brothers here on the Sunshine Coast, we're fortunate enough to be part of a larger fraternity with the Brothers fraternity stretching up the east coast and further. At this point in time, they're all being very supportive of us. We've been lucky enough or fortunate enough to have a large number of players on the Coast and the regional area that all looking to just play with us.

Michael Haines They'll be there to support us if we require it, which is fantastic to have that there as well.

Patrick Gillett [Inaudible]

Michael Haines Yeah. So, Brothers, we're all pretty tight. So, you know, they're all happy to support us or back us as we grow

Patrick Gillett Same home ground as this year?

Michael Haines Same home ground at the stadium for 2022. We're looking to, to essentially with the launch of A-grade and reserve grade, our women's team will also be playing on a Saturday. So the Saturday will become a pretty big day at the club. And I'm getting pretty excited about the juniors watching a lot of our senior players on a Saturday as well.

Patrick Gillett Good for the Juniors to see the A grade side?

Michael Haines Yeah. Yeah. We've had a number of the senior players already training at the club on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We haven't really promoted this through our junior club as yet, but a large number of the junior players are pitching up to watch. And as this what we like about brothers get involved, the senior players have actually been involving the junior players in the first part of their training sessions and the boys have been loving it.

Patrick Gillett Anything else that we haven't covered?

Michael Haines Yeah, and that's the one that obviously guys, we're brothers is launching A-grade and reserve grade in next year. If, if you're keen to, to play at a club and a great club on the coast, we would love you to come and have a run with us. Thank you very much.

Articles edit

@BobBa48: What I was trying to say in my edit summary, which I accidentally submit early, was that their name is "Brothers Sunshine Coast" and therefore no "the" is needed. Heavy Water (talk) 15:09, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Citing interview edit

@Xbspiro: Is it necessary to cite the YouTube version of the interview, given that this is OR and the transcript is provided in full on this page? Granted, there isn't usually a YouTube version available, but... We could also choose to use it as an external link or say at the end of the article, "The full video of the interview is available here." Heavy Water (talk) 15:26, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Heavy Water - If it would be a source for a synthesis article, we would mark it so. In this case, I don't see why a differentiation between OR and synthesis would be necessary. I consider the transcript to be a courtesy on the author's side. - Xbspiro (talk) 11:44, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm obviously not the author, but I was thinking actually this would be a good time to publish: they won't join until 2023 (right around the corner), and major news outlets often publish interviews much later (see these POLITICO ones, which were conducted in October (!) and published on December 17). --Heavy Water (talk) 23:18, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

@RockerballAustralia: confirm please 'comp' means competition, and just generally give it all a once-over. --JJLiu112 (talk) 00:25, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
'comp' is short for competition. --RockerballAustralia contribs 00:31, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just saw the c/e of the second paragraph. There are two other clubs to mention - Nambour and Gympie - if that's how we're going to word it.--RockerballAustralia contribs 00:33, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Are the clubs in the SCRU not those which approve a new member? Why Nambour and Gympie? JJLiu112 (talk) 00:37, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
The SCRU clubs are the ones that do approve it. Nambour and Gympie are SCRU clubs but don't currently play in that top grade. All of the other clubs do. --RockerballAustralia contribs 00:39, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
