Why the phrase "hate crime"? In Canada (I'm not familiar with UK law), a "hate crime" is a specific term that relates to crimes that were committed with a motive of racial or ethnic hatred. --Quadrastreet 17:16, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

A very good question. No other news service seems to be calling this a hate crime, or ascribing any motive to it that I can see. 159.53.46.142 18:05, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
