Talk:Australian state of Victoria swears in new cabinet

Australia or Australian should somehow be worked into the title for those who don't know Oz geography well enough to recognise where the story is about. I'm not sure if you call Victoria a province, state, or territory. --Brian McNeil / talk 08:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- We have 6 states and 2 territories, but no provinces. Enlil Ninlil 09:17, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- So that'd leave you with "Australian state of Victoria swears in new cabinet" as a title option? --Brian McNeil / talk 09:52, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- I thought it was an antique collecting story when I first saw the start of the headline in my Gmail RSS banner. -- Zanimum 18:59, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think that must go for all articles, because where did that bridge collapse again? Somewhere in the U.S. or Britian, not too shore. But I understand your point of view. Enlil Ninlil 04:19, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I already messaged that page. Enlil Ninlil 04:53, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- But you're talking about the bridge...? I don't get it. irid:t 04:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes but Im talking about the Heading, do all articles include the state and country name as in this articles case and is it advisable to include them. If so how can it be made standard? Thanks mate Enlil Ninlil 05:00, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- To the best of my knowledge Minneapolis and Minnesota are unique to the U.S. and there is a good chance most readers have heard of one. In addition the key focus there is the bridge collapse, it is less important where exactly it happened.
- In the case of this article, the place is key to the story and when I read the headline I was saying "Victoria where?" and had to read the article to see. It is always a judgement call on whether you need to be more explicit about the location an article refers to. For example, if you're talking about Paris, London, Bangkok, etc. you don't need the country name. On the other hand, for somewhere like Manchester you might need to put Manchester, England. --Brian McNeil / talk 07:32, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
