Question for our Aussies

Has the ALP always been this social conservative? Yesterday there was an article about their support for a gay marriage ban and now they want to censor the Internet. Seems odd for a party that supposed to be the more progressive one in an essentially two-party system. --Deprifry|+T+ 10:26, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

The ALP has generally been fairly centrist, being a socialist organisation. Lately (and this is an opinion) they have been getting more and more like the conservative parties - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 10:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

The ALP has been in opposition for 10 years, and they're doing their damndest to get re-elected. They've probably perceived a shift to the right in the Australian population, and so are trying to capture those votes. - Borofkin 03:24, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't any political party in Oz represent the interests of fiscal conservatives? 120 million AUD in federal funds as glorified corporate welfare to censorware authors and ISPs on behalf of a self-righteous minority seems ridiculous beyond belief. 71.162.255.58 05:09, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
