U.S Government quote? edit

Are countries generally allowed to comment on each others' internal affairs? PVJ(Talk)  11:39, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The US and UK: on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Cuba, Somalia.....whether they're allowed to or not, they do! IMO, people should be free to comment on whatever a country's issue, especially if human rights violations have been committed. However on physical intervention, its different. But for the purposes of this article, the US govt commented on Sudan's internal affairs so it's relevant to include the quote, particularly as the dep Sec of State's there today Ad 12:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
IMO, people should be free to comment on whatever a country's issue, especially if human rights violations have been committed. The convention is that countries do not make official statements about matters relating to the internal affairs of other nations as that would amount to questioning the sovereignity of the latter state. Although this practice is waived when it comes to "weaker" countries like Afghanistan or Sudan, it is nontheless a sort of unspoken rule. It must, however, not be forgotten that the U.S received severe criticism from Indian Parliament when it offered external assistance to our security forces against Naxals in various parts of the country. The bottom line is that any statement that appears to undermine the sovereignity of a country is taken very seriously indeed. PVJ(Talk)  13:21, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
