Original Reporting
editAs the original source of this article was very short, I thought it would be interesting to look into the penalties of driving on unroadworthy tyres and the cost of replacing them on the three popular kinds of cars in Australia.
I compiled a list of vehicles which are considered to be popular (or well known) in each category.
Large sedan
edit- Ford Falcon
- Holden Commodore
- Toyota Camry
- Mitsubishi 380
Small sedan
edit- Toyota Corolla
- Hyundai Accent
- Nissan Pulsar
SUV
edit- Nissan Patrol
- Ford Territory
- Subaru Forester
- Toyota Prado
I then looked up the tyre sizes of the vehicles on their manufacturer's website and contacted local tyre retailers and asked for the price of their mid-range tyres by size. Interestingly, despite slight variations in sizes between makes and models (in each group), the tyre models and pricing are the same.
Here's what I found:
Large sedan
edit- Bridgestone ER30 $90
- Pirelli P6 $149
- Goodyear NCT5 Eco $139
- Dunlop Monza 200 $138
AVERAGE $129
Small sedan

- Goodyear NCT5 Eco $109
- Yokohama S306 $99
AVERAGE $105

- Bridgestone ER30 $165
- Goodyear NCT5 Eco $175
- Goodyear Fortera $195
