Confusing sentence edit

"Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC, who oversaw the trial, expressed support for Ahmed's position detained without trial: [ quote....]" (emphasis added)

I'm not sure what this is trying to say. Does this mean that Rivlin supports Ahmed's detention? The quote itself seems to indicate otherwise. It seems as though there's at least a preposition missing from the italicized part. "expressed support for Ahmed's release from detention without trial", perhaps?
