On Friday, video game manufacturer Rockstar Games announced that the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI ― the sixth mainline installment in the Grand Theft Auto video game series ― and the sequel to 2013's Grand Theft Auto V ― had been pushed back until May 26, 2026. The release had been previously slated for fall 2025.

The reason given by Rockstar was "to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." The company apologized for the delay, explaining: "With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

Grand Theft Auto VI is "expected to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time," according to IGN. Its predecessor ― Grand Theft Auto V ― remains popular among fans of the series eleven years removed from its launch.
