Freezing temperatures swept across eastern portions of the US state of Texas last week. As of 10:55 PM CST (1455 UTC) on Wednesday, temperatures in the city of Houston stood at 31°F. By 10:00 AM CST (0200 UTC) the next morning, temps stood at 27°F.

An arctic air mass moved into eastern Texas late Thursday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures. By Friday morning, temperatures in Tyler, Texas had fallen to 29°F, before warming to 56°F by Sunday afternoon.

At least one hotel in Houston's Galleria district had its landscaping shrubbery covered with protective tarps.
