Happy new year! Yesterday marks eleven years since the start of the third millennium. Eleven years is the longest time it can take a date (other than February 29) to fall on the same day of the week again. This happens for March through December of any year that is congruent to 2 modulo 4, and January and February of any year congruent to 3 modulo 4. For instance, even to this day, December 25, 2002 was the last time Christmas fell on a Wednesday. This gap will finally end in 2013, when it will be a Wednesday again.
