Hilarious, BUT: I was under the impression that protests were, no matter how offensive, a legal form of demonstrating opinion. That's why the KKK can get away with being such utter douchebags, but still prance down the street in their bedsheets with police protection. It seems at cross-purposes with that basic right to lay such a heavy fine (or any fine) on them for simply showcasing how they feel, idiotic as it might be.

What a joke. I don't care whether their protests were right or wrong, this is clearly an emotionally motivated judgment. Theres no was this emotional stress amounts to 12 million dollars. If a judge can feel for us another judge can feel for them. If one judge can stop them from protesting another can stop us from protesting.
- Nobody is saying they can't protest. But how would you feel if that funeral was your mother's and they were calling her a dyke, chanting as the funeral was being held, and reveling in her death? Civil judgments are not just for the one act, but take into account patterns of behavior and are also meant to be preventative. People have a right to protest, but they do not have the right to defame people and harass them. Your rights end when they infringe on another's person's rights. i think these people got off fairly easy for doing what they did
This is wonderful step forward in the battle against hatred in America and around the world. I am so proud of the family for stepping up and taking action against these people. The Westboro Baptist Church is nothing but a group of ignorant and hateful people. Their actions have been pasted all over the news as the actions of Christians everywhere, even though they are a tiny, tiny minority. Christianity preaches love and tolerance, not hatred. The Westboro Baptist Church has finally got what they deserve. I hope that this lawsuit bankrupts the church (and it will) and causes members to take seriously the emotional consequences of their disgusting actions. I hope they disband, but having seen their stubborness before I doubt that they will. If I could get the address of the family who sued, I would like very much to send them a letter saying thank you from Christians and homosexuals everywhere. Let this be a thank you to them: as a homosexual, an American citizen, AND a supporter of our troops, I feel a little safer knowing that there are people in this world who will stand up when their family members are put down. This isn't even an issue of the church's disturbing anti-homosexual protests. It disgusts me that they would connect homosexuality to something so tragic as the death of a soldier. These two things are unrelated. It makes my stomach turn over when I see pictures of them bothering a family in such a tragic time. I find it hard to believe that there are people like that in the world, who are so insensitive and backwards. I hope for their sake they read the New Testament through again, and maybe stop over on the phrase "love your neighbor as yourself."

This bunch is a real embarassment to Kansas. A bunch of social terrorists hiding under the banner of religion and the judge should have also stripped them of their tax exempt status.

- I don't even think they are bigots; I think they are just crazy and a cult. It's hard to hate them because they seem so pitiful in their attempts to get a piece of media spotlight. That Church is nowhere near a real Baptist Church, and they are an embarrassment to Baptists. I checked out their doctrine, and, as I suspected, they are also hypercalvinists. That figures.
It's one thing to have an opinion on homosexuality, and quite another to behave in such an obnoxious and hurtful way toward people whom they don't even know. I'm delighted that they got sued, and I hope their rotten little cult soon disappears.
I saw a TV progam made by the U.K.'s B.B.C. about them. The presenter was very patient and gracious toward them, but was treated very rudely. One of their females, disgustingly, told the presenter (who is NOT gay, by the way) that he is going to hell, instead of being nice to him and telling him how to get saved. That woman is apparently unaware of the fact that I Corinthians says that some of the members of the Corinthian Church were gay.
