I never heard of a Goverment that refuse to take aid. --66.229.25.248 07:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not trying to defend the Burmese junta here, but their situation explains their actions. Their regime is tottering under the blow of the cyclone; they are well aware that the international community is starting to make rumblings about "regime change". Now we come over and ask if we can start flying helicopters all over the countryside and land some vessels, which probably originally designed as amphibious assault craft, as those will have the best chance of reaching the survivors. For all the Burmese junta knows, those choppers and ships have invading Marines in them, not food and medicine. Remember, since they are a brutal pack of thugs lacking both compassion and scruples, they are not able to imagine that any other country might have those properties. They must assume our (read: the rest of the world's) actions are motivated by greed the same way theirs are. Therefore they will not be able to trust us, and so they can't risk allowing us into the country, for fear of their regime being toppled.

Furthermore, their own actions now demand they continue to refuse aid. The cyclone victims who survive this calamity will know that their government deliberately refused aid that could have saved them and their family members - that is a revolution in the making. So at this point I'm sure the Burmese junta feels it would be much less complicated for them if the cyclone victims were to all die, thus eliminating a potential insurrection. --on WP as User:Kasreyn 167.127.107.8 13:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

--Kasreyn, Burma's government has been slowing killing off the people in the country side in order to consolidate power in cities. The government doesn't care about it's people, which is demonstrated here. Regime change or not, when 76,000 of your people die, and you have no operational aircraft or ability to provide aide to the others who might die, you have to let in foreign aide; if not, then a regime change is called for. The farmers in the countryside are not going to be able to topple a government, how would they while providing for their family? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.226.230.36 (talk) 17:21, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Isn't shit like this what the Marines are for? God knows we've invaded countries for far less humanitarian reasons. Too bad we've got all those troops tied up in the Middle East.--209.66.200.45 17:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
