Lack of regulations
editLooking over the images, it looks like a typical lift in every way. Which is worrying; how many more are vulnerable to high winds? Riding these things, I'd allways assumed that they could take virtually any wind likely to show up (although I wouldn't reccommend testing your luck with it!). The astounding lack of regulations in this case - in a country that should damn wel know enough to set limits - suggests to me this aspect of safety is long overdue complete legislative overhaul. Reliable safety is necessary
editI understand the weather is always an unpredictable element, on the other hand it's necessary to be able to reliably operate these lifts safely (or stop in time) no matter how adverse the weather ist. First, with the height the chairs are travelling in it's about life and death as can be seen from the accident and the pictures. Second, if the skiers feel anxious about the safety, the number of these tourists will drop and these ski destinations will get less turnover. I was expecting pictures of an older, outdated technology but from the photos I see there are those cable catchers. I always thought they'll hold the cable if it accidentally derails. (anonymous)
Still perfectly safe.
editWe have just returned from the region and was infact at the resort when the accident happened.
The lifts on the whole are safe and please do not let this deter you from visiting one of the best ski resorts we have been to.

Photos and videos might help investigation
OUR PARTY OF 7 MADE UP ABOUT 10% OF THOSE RESCUED AND WE, SADLY, SAW THE ACTUAL ACCIDENT HAPPEN. WE HAVE A SERIES OF PHOTOS TAKEN OF THE RESCUE FROM OUR CHAIRS, NUMBERS 3-7 (I THINK) BEHIND THE CHAIR WHICH HIT THE GROUND, PLUS A COUPLE OF VIDEOS. IF THEY ARE USEFUL TO ANYONE OR TO THE INVESTIGATORS PLEASE CONTACT US. WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL TO THE RESCUERS WHO VERY EFFICIENTLY LOWERED US TO THE GROUND ON ROPES. WE WERE SURPRISED THAT THE LIFT WAS WORKING IN SUCH A HIGH WIND. The Herbert Family: kateseal@btinternet.com—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.167.116.130 (talk) 11:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
