I think that this bill will help this will be a very giant moment in history! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.163.91.107 (talk • contribs)
This bill, from what I read, sounds like the president is doing exactly what he said he will do... which is another huge handout to those who should be working. Its too bad that as Americans we are lacking the ambition that the rest of the world has attained. If we were leaders in industry we would not be looking for a hand out... Thats what lazy people look for.. a hand out! This cuts the HARD WORKING AMERICANS throat! Come on American, aren't we the land of the Free and home of the Brave? Sounds more like land of the lazy and home for the hand outs! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.100.150 (talk) 19:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Those who should be 'working' are these so-called captains of industry and coke-snorting Wall Street gamblers who got the global economy into this mess; working at McDonalds, or on a litter patrol picking up discarded fast food wrappers. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:42, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Do I think that the stimulus package will help the economy? Perhaps in the short term, but I wonder about the "full faith and credit of the U.S. government" upon which the value of our fiat currency rests when that selfsame government keeps heaping on the debt while the economy is in decline. I understand the Keynesian theory behind these stimulus measures, but I think it has hidden, unacknowledged risks. The interim benefit may not be worth the grave risk of a currency crisis. Also, from the standpoint of political philosophy, I'm somewhat perturbed by the fact that this is essentially spending for the sake of spending. Government spending should be for some objective that is not contained in itself. 129.110.242.8 22:33, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
No, its going to hold me, my children, and my children's children hostage to the Federal Reserve for a length of time that has no foreseeable end. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.146.48.5 (talk) 15:14, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
We will see
editI am a bit sceptic about this bill. I agree with the idea of tax cuts and building an infrastructure. But the social package is undoubtly something Americans will pay for in future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.220.124.198 (talk) 16:37, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
worthless. wreckless. this is the not the beginning of the end, merely the end of the beginning. this bill will only exacerbate the situation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.97.218.96 (talk) 23:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
recovery package
editI am sad to think so many people are blindsided about this issue. I agree that it'll help shortterm. People need money beyond tomorrow. I don't think it'll work even 50%. Big government takeover is all it is. a concerned citizen, Jeanette —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.188.232.19 (talk) 17:03, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
No, it will not work.
editIt didn't work for Bush 2 or FDR, why should it work now? Only the free market can help us, but the government's interference through programs such as the Federal Reserve just makes it worse. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.227.0.53 (talk • contribs)
I surely think it will help! I mean...66% of the money will be going to tax cuts, health,AND education. Not only will it improve the ecomony,it will help the whole country. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.199.200.130 (talk • contribs)
$787 billion divided by up to 3.5 million jobs saved/created equals at least $224,857.14 per job saved/created. That is a lot more than the average annual wages. If exactly the same amount of money had been subtracted from taxes collected - not in the form of tax rebates, but in the form of lower rates - then tens of millions of jobs would have been helped.
