Comments:Iran: Detained British troops do not need to go to trial

How do you capture a boarding party?

edit

Seriously, do the British Royal Marines board vessels unarmed? I can't wrap my head around how the exact sequence of events plays out.

Iran captured 15 British service members and many of them are Marines. Why didn't they resist? In the U.S. at least, if you have the means to resist and fail to, that is grounds for a courts martial.

Aside from all of that, didn't they have some form of communication? They could have, at the very least, created a standoff and radioed for help. They were so close to the Iraqi coast there could have been air support in minutes, and probably a ship-of-the-line from the U.K. or USA which are patrolling in great numbers day and night.

My feeling is that the officer(s) present failed in their duty.(preceding unsigned comment by EthanMN 13:45, 3 April 2007)

From what I understand they were armed, but were heavily outmanned and outgunned at the time of their capture. Suicide just to prove your point doesn't seem like a reasonable course of action for me. --+Deprifry+ 13:56, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
There was a type 22 RN ship there, the ship should have opened fire on the Iran boats, sink them. Then delete all photos taken by the media, so the world could never find out. Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 10:58, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately with todays technology, that would be impossible. DragonFire1024 11:07, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
