What you need to bear in mind are two things 1. English is based on sound and a lot of the meanings come from sound. Subtitles remove thoses sounds so that occasionally you are guess. e.g. The word Thanks, this can be genuine Thanks or a sarcastic Thanks, the only way of knowing is through the sound. English is littered with words that only become clear when you hear the sounds.
2. The average reading age of a Deaf school leaver is 8.5 because the education system for Deaf people is such a mess. So you could argue that this is teh fault of politicians for failing to address the issue of Education for Deaf people seriously. In Sweden the typical Deaf person leaves school with knowledge of between 4 to 5 languages, just to give you an idea how crap the education system is in Wales for Deaf people. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.27.12.230 (talk • contribs)
