5th child dies
editmy heart goes out to this family. my concern is at what point does the chase stop. I believe we need a law in place that will not allow this to happen again. a life is worth more than a car or a traffic ticket. being responsible for the law is a hugh task so maybe now we can really take a look at this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.28.91.125 (talk • contribs)
- Unfortunately while the police bear some blame for this (and of course the car thieves as well), the parents of the children in question are equally to blame. Have you noticed that both of the parents are still alive, while the children are dead? That's because both of the parents were wearing seatbelts, and NONE of the children were. The children were killed not by the impact itself, but by being thrown out of the vehicle and smashed into the ground. That's a common way to die when you're not wearing a seatbelt. And they had 7 people in one little truck. Ummmm.... yeah. That's *totally* a safe way to travel.
- People complain when cops give out seatbelt tickets:P. This is what those tickets are intended to prevent. If the parents had only buckled up their kids, then most of them would probably still be alive (again: of course they'd all still be alive if those 3 jackasses hadn't stolen a car, and if the police officer in question hadn't engaged in a dangerous adrenaline-fuelled high speed chase). - we can only ASSUME this was an "adrenaline fueled high speed pursuit" it's so easy to blame the police, what would the outcry be if these 3 car thieves were not pursued and they went on a shooting rampage? Hypotheticals aside, the blame lies with the parents, as well as the criminals, and lastly if the officer in pursuit were justified in continuing the pursuit (there are guidlines to follow while pursuing, it's not just a thoughtless chase)198.218.119.3 (talk) 10:35, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
To be fair I'd be angry at the Police department; in our jursisdiction they stopped having police chases for stolen vehicles unless there are other violent crimes associated. Face it, the car is going to get damaged in any chase and the owner will get insurance either way. Best to avoid the chance of such a tragic accident happening.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 218.215.61.31 (talk • contribs)
