Sigh - as if god cares HOW you worship Him or who holds the trademark. Someone's lost sight of the big picture. - 81.103.125.116 17:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Religion - in most cases - is the grandest form of hubris edit

Really, this gets me every time. We marvel at how vast the universe is and how tiny we are in relation to it. We live on a small blue-green planet orbiting a fairly average star, in a fairly average galaxy. So why the #$%& do people who think the whole thing was created think the creator would pay so much attention to us? We're a detail, a curve on a comma in a book bigger than you can possibly imagine. Why should we put ourselves above all other life in the universe when we don't even know the extent of it - that is hubris, and Christians, Jews, and Muslims practice it on a daily basis despite their protestations of humility. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:28, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

*ducks* Wellll.... the problem is that Christians (myself included in that group) believe (as it is written in the Bible anyway) that God created the entire universe, but created us specifically, and loves us specifically. The thinking goes that God created man as his greatest creation, and his greatest love. I mean, you have to admit, if we believe that God sacrificed his only son Jesus for the sake of mankind, we're a little more important than a comma. :) irid:t 17:32, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I lean towards Buddhist teachings - which is currently the fastest growing religion in the world. My partner is a devout Buddhist who believes there is a God, but such is not a requirement of the philosophy/religion.
I was brought up Christian (Episcopalian) and I know many of the parables and stories. I choose to believe that JC was essentially a good man who said "Why don't we be nice to each other for a change?" and did so in such a convincing manner to - well... They crucified him and persecuted his followers. Beyond that I don't believe the tales of miracles and such, nor the resurrection. I believe that any individual has the potential if they are articulate enough to upset the status quo as JC did. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:41, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Take a chill pill edit

I'm just covering the news that I happen to be close to. I come upon a news story that I think is important and I happen to know more about it than the newspapers do, so I write it down.

"I choose to believe that JC was essentially a good man who said "Why don't we be nice to each other for a change?" - You may choose to believe that, but does that make it true? If you believe in the Bible then Jesus had quite a lot more to say then that. --BenMcLean 16:39, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
