editCall-in quiz shows are among the most immoral legal enterprises. The presenter's job is to whip viewers into a frenzy and trick them into thinking they have a good chance of winning a prize if they make a call to an expensive telephone number. Questions are typically either laughably simple or improbably hard. In the first case, the hectoring from the presenter goes on seemingly forever while no calls come in, so that viewers who know the answer get the (mistaken) impression that they can be the first to call in with the right answer. In the second case, the phone keeps ringing off the hook with "plausible" answers but no one ever gets it right.
It's a multi-million scam that thrives on exploiting the gullibility of uncritical people. The presenter's histrionics are standard fare for this kind of show.--Goodmorningworld (talk) 20:23, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
