Category talk:Avian Flu

This page can't be edited by clicking on the "edit" link. Perhaps related, no recent news is posted and misleading headlines haven't been fixed.

Recent news requires writing (always), there are links to do so from the main page. As a Category page, there is very little to edit here, you can - it isn't protected, but the main purpose is to collect all articles tagged with the Avian Flu category. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:20, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

From WikiNews, the free news source you CAN'T write

edit

I'd like to suggest that either this page be made editable by clicking "edit" or that clear instructions on how to edit be provided on a page that comes up when one clicks "edit."

The editing help provided via the water cooler seems unhelpful for WikiNews. Clicking through "technical" bring up the usual laudable editing techniques used in the rest of WikiMedia, e.g.,

General

To edit a MediaWiki page, click on the "Edit this page" (or just "edit") link at one of its edges. This will bring you to a page with a text box containing the wikitext: the editable source code from which the server produces the webpage.

Unfortunately, these seem to be the very techniques that you CAN'T use to edit WikiNews.

The H5N1 material is embarrassingly out of date and the headlines are misleading. Until the resources are not available to make this a living system like Wikipedia by allowing edits, the page should be taken down.

Where do you not see the edit button? MESSEDROCKER 00:19, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Its out of date, because its archived news. old news is meant to reflect the time it was written. Wikinews is not a work in progress, therefor after a period of time we freeze articles. see Wikinews:archive conventions Bawolff :-)(-: 00:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
If there is more up to date information, there whould be a new article for it. Bawolff :-)(-: 00:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

If it's just an archive, say so

edit

Don't lead the reader (and the potential editor) to expect that one can "Catch up with the latest articles just below", as the page currently does.

The category page is unprotected, if you feel the text on it could be better worded have at it. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Return to "Avian Flu" page.
