RSS feed content

It would be nice, IMO, if we could have a little more content in the RSS feeds. Ideally the first paragraph from the article, or even the whole article if possible. How could we achieve this technically? Frankie Roberto 22:30, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I think that it would be plausible to expand the RSS feeds to include a short summary of the articles. I think that this could be done by expanding the parser or generator that's used to automatically update the feeds. It could be modified to place a section of the article (perhaps the first paragraph) in the <description> tags for each item, making a more useful feed. Example: <description>summary</description>. I also think, a RSS feed with complete content is necessary. Also for third-part developers who want to use Wikinews as a news source for mashups, some API should be provide for easy crawling and querying. 9th Jan 2008 128.100.5.115

Older topics

I put together an RSS feed of the "Original Reporting" section. The feed is available at http://www.inic.org/wikinews.xml I also added an external link to the feed on the top of this article. If you do not have an RSS reader, you can view a web based version of the feed at Wikinews Original Reporting RSS Feed Please let me know what you think. I will try to update it daily. Local/portal feeds?

I don't know this RSS stuff that well, but it would be nice to be able to have a feed for my local Houston portal. Especially if it were combined with the main feed. Jordanmills 14:57, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

RSS Broken?

Attribution sample needed

"Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor."

With this license we are to attribute the work if we re-distribute it. Can someone please post an official sample attribution? This needs to be on the main RSS synidcation page and/or a link next to the license link in the footer.

RSS broken

The RSS feeds for Print Edition and News Briefs don't work. I get the following error message:

News Brief RSS

I noticed the News Brief RSS hasn't been updated for 6 months so I created a new one. I hope that is OK with everyone. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 19:57, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I have made an effort to contact the person who runs the old news brief RSS (even though it is 6 months abandoned). I also said that I don't mind if that feed is restored. I have not yet recieved a reply so if anyone else knows another way of contacting the person, please contact them and ask them whether they want to restore their Audio Wikinews RSS or if they want me to continue with the feed I created. I am 90% sure it was User:Munchkinguy who created the feed. This is because of 3 reasons

1. He added the link to the feed on the Audio Page
2. He became inactive at virtually exactly the same time as the feed stopped updating
3. Corecspondence on his talk page gave the impression that he runs the feed. --User:Anonymous101 Talk 13:02, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think thats the right person. The feed was previously maintained by Terinjokes and MrM to my knowlesge. I was just talking to Adambro on irc, and he said he was going to try to make a feed on the toolserver that reads the wikinews page and automatically updates. Bawolff ☺☻ 23:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I hav just recieved a response from User:Munchkinguy. He did created the feed. If an autimatic feed is created that is brilliant as no work would be required. Improving "Latest News" Feed

Hi everyone, I'd like to make two suggestions:

• Instead of repeating the feed title in the body, how about putting a date.
• Make it accept a parameter that defines how many days old news still appear in the feed. --Gannalech (talk) 08:28, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Well the current feed is not very customizable. There has been talk of switching over to this feed (maintained by User:Cspurrier ) which is a lot more customizable. Original Reporting RSS feed broken?

Are the RSS feeds for original reporting broken? Currently, the feed shows the top story as "Singapore Slingers defeat Darwin All-Stars in eighth Singapore Challenge Series game", but on Portal:Original reporting the top result is DS4SEQ discusses daylight savings in Queensland with Wikinews.
