In the first paragraph, answer all essential questions -- who, what, when, why, how, where -- in one or two sentences. Just two or three concise sentences suffices. For example, "On the 31st of May, 2018, John Smiths, an astronomy student from the Washington University, landed on Saturn, the largest planet in the Solar System. He travelled using a SpaceZ space ship provided by the Green Alliance, Singapore." (More documentation: WN:5W, WN:Lede.)
In the next one or more paragraphs provide relevant fresh background that did not fit the first paragraph. For example, "John Smiths spent two hours on the planet, taking photos and collecting measurements of the planet atmosphere. The landing was aired on QC television channel in the United States". (For Wikilinks, use {{w}} template, example, {{w|Target page|Display text}}
.)
The last paragraph(s) provide relevant background information. This may not be as fresh as the news event itself, for example, "The mission took four years, with three and a half years required to reach the planet. Previously a dog landed Saturn in 2010. Saturn is the largest planet in the solar system with an average temperature of -30K on the surface."
