Talk:British schoolgirl told to return home for wearing crucifix

Latest comment: 18 years ago by Sawran in topic British schoolgirl and crucifix

The article is POV & sensationalist.

  • Its about some subtle issue of local law, but the explination of the law is inadequate, and specifically targeted to offend Christians.. its not even clear if it is a law per se. No information on the size of the crucifix is give; France bans headscarfs and large crusifixes, but allows small crosses.
  • Quite a bit of the language is judgmental/POV too.

At first glance, my feeling is that a major rewrite is needed, but experence suggests that POV-accusers always overestimate the size of the rewrite required.  :) - Nyarlathotep 02:55, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

This was my first major article contribution to Wikinews, so please forgive me if the POV is not to your liking or appears biased. To be honest, I just tried my best to go off of the information contained in the sources. The sources that I found do not cite any specific law, they just mention school policy and quote a spokesperson from the Derby City Council. As far as the size of the crucifix goes, it was most likely only a few inches, since the schoolgirl wore it around her neck.
I tried to stay neutral by giving quotes from all sides (the school official, the mother and the Derby City Council). In your opinion, which specific areas in the article need revising? It would help if you could provide some examples. Sawran 03:48, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sawran, this is a very good first Wikinews article. It's a very controversial topic, so it will probably attract a lot of attention and POV debate... remember to not take it personally, and work with people on the talk page (as you have clearly been doing). Well doned! - Borofkin 04:41, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your comment, Borofkin. I am certainly open to debate and willing to change the article if it needs revising. I appreciate the fact that Nyarlathotep started a discussion here on the talk page instead of just going in and editing the article without asking. The next time I work on a controversial article, I will wait a bit longer before publishing it. Sawran 05:11, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

British schoolgirl and crucifix edit

I don't know what POV means

POV stands for point of view. Please see Wikinews:Neutral point of view- for more information. Sawran 00:25, 10 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
