I really don't feel that it would have been necessary for him to say that he was a pimp. All he had to do was tell people that he did some things when he was very very young that he regrets now and no one should have brought up the subject after that. Did people just want to hurt him and bring him down. Just jealousy I guess for what he has done with his life since then. He has more than paid his dues.
I am now listening to him playing Dan Reid in all the Lone Ranger shows and he is absolutely marvelous. He would have been 16 at that time, same age as I was, and in every show he would have learned something of value in the way a person should handle himself with others. In fact the Lone Ranger taught him the CREED OF THE LONE RANGER. I would also like to express how much I am enjoying him as Dan Reid and he should be very proud of that part of his life. He was just a marvelous actor and I am enjoying every minute of every one of his shows. He was very lucky to be able to appear with Brace Beemer. I just hope that someone will tell him for me how great he was back then in the early 1940's.

Lipton was a mec, not a pimp edit
In an interview with Diane Rehm on NPR, Lipton stated specifically that he worked as a "mec" and not a pimp for a prostitute in Paris whom he had befriended. A mec works for the prostitute, whereas a prostitute works for the pimp (if she has a pimp). Lipton said a mec is more of a publicity agent or an advertiser for a prostitute, attracting Americans and other foreigners to see or participate in sexual encounters.
